This just in! Boring jobs result in boredom
…claims researchers from the National Academy of Sciences.
According to the report ‘monotonous duties switch our brain to rest mode whether we like it or not.’ Based on patterns in our brain activity, researchers found that that mistakes can be predicted up to 30 seconds before we make them. This obviously causes some alarm for individuals working in ‘critical situations’ such as pilots, immigration control officers, and high school hostesses at Tia’s Tex Mex (viva queso!).
But all joking aside, I typically like my pilots awake and somewhat mistake free so it’s nice to know that a device is in the works to help activity in the prefrontal cortex (also known as ‘the front of yer noggin’ in the medical dictionary).
Luckily the device will be unassuming and subtle so the person wearing it doesn’t feel like a huge jackass (see jackass dummy below).
